Description
A quick and easy teriyaki meatball recipe that’s perfect for a weeknight meal or a party appetizer. These meatballs are coated in a sweet and savory teriyaki sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef or turkey
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons mirin (Japanese sweet rice wine)
- 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
- Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)
- Chopped green onions, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix well and form into small meatballs.
- Place meatballs on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until browned and cooked through.
- While meatballs are baking, prepare the teriyaki sauce. In a small saucepan, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, mirin, and ginger. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and water to create a slurry.
- Gradually whisk the cornstarch slurry into the simmering teriyaki sauce until thickened. Cook for 1-2 minutes more.
- Once meatballs are cooked, drain off any excess fat.
- Add the baked meatballs to the teriyaki sauce and toss to coat evenly.
- Serve hot, garnished with sesame seeds and green onions if desired.
Notes
- For a spicier sauce, add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
- You can substitute chicken or pork for the ground beef or turkey.
- These meatballs can be made ahead of time and reheated.
