Description
A recipe for preparing tender and flavorful steak tips, focusing on a simple yet effective cooking method to ensure a perfect result.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds steak tips (sirloin, flank, or skirt steak)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
Instructions
- Pat the steak tips dry with paper towels. This helps achieve a better sear.
- In a medium bowl, toss the steak tips with olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder (if using). Ensure all pieces are evenly coated.
- Preheat a large skillet (cast iron works best) over medium-high heat until very hot.
- Add the steak tips to the hot skillet in a single layer, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Work in batches if necessary. Overcrowding will steam the meat instead of searing it.
- Sear the steak tips for 2-3 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer for your desired doneness (4-5 minutes per side for medium).
- Remove the steak tips from the pan and let them rest on a cutting board for 5-10 minutes before serving. This allows the juices to redistribute, ensuring maximum tenderness.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can add a tablespoon of butter and a sprig of fresh rosemary or thyme to the pan during the last minute of cooking.
- Always adjust the seasoning to your preference.
- Resting the meat is crucial for tenderness; do not skip this step.
- If using a marinade, reduce or omit the added olive oil and seasonings specified in step 2.
