Description
A quick and easy recipe for homemade Cheez-Its that are crispy, cheesy, and satisfying.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 2-3 tablespoons ice water
Instructions
- In a food processor, pulse together the flour, salt, paprika, and garlic powder.
- Add the shredded cheddar cheese and cold butter cubes. Pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- With the processor running, gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough just starts to come together. Be careful not to overmix.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently bring it together into a disc. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/8-inch thickness.
- Using a knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into small squares, similar to Cheez-It size. You can use a fork to gently press the Cheez-It pattern onto the top of each cracker.
- Transfer the crackers to the prepared baking sheets, leaving a little space between them.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Let cool completely on the baking sheets before serving.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the dry ingredients.
- Experiment with different cheeses like Monterey Jack or Colby for variations.
- Ensure the butter and water are very cold for the best texture.
- You can use a small cookie cutter for perfectly shaped crackers.
