Description

A quick and easy recipe for homemade Cheez-Its that are crispy, cheesy, and satisfying.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 2-3 tablespoons ice water

Instructions

  1. In a food processor, pulse together the flour, salt, paprika, and garlic powder.
  2. Add the shredded cheddar cheese and cold butter cubes. Pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. With the processor running, gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough just starts to come together. Be careful not to overmix.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently bring it together into a disc. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/8-inch thickness.
  7. Using a knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into small squares, similar to Cheez-It size. You can use a fork to gently press the Cheez-It pattern onto the top of each cracker.
  8. Transfer the crackers to the prepared baking sheets, leaving a little space between them.
  9. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  10. Let cool completely on the baking sheets before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the dry ingredients.
  • Experiment with different cheeses like Monterey Jack or Colby for variations.
  • Ensure the butter and water are very cold for the best texture.
  • You can use a small cookie cutter for perfectly shaped crackers.
