Description

A quick and delicious stovetop chili recipe featuring ground beef, perfect for a weeknight meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (15 oz) can diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 (15 oz) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 (15 oz) can black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (4 oz) can green chilies, diced
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped cilantro

Instructions

  1. Brown ground beef in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Add chopped onion to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  4. Add diced tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans, tomato sauce, and green chilies to the pot.
  5. Stir in chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper.
  6. Bring the chili to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for at least 20 minutes, or longer for flavors to meld.
  7. Serve hot, with optional toppings.

Notes

  • For a spicier chili, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a diced jalapeño.
  • This chili can be made ahead of time and reheats well.
  • Feel free to add other vegetables like bell peppers or corn.
