Description
A quick and easy turkey chili recipe that can be prepared in just 30 minutes, perfect for a fast and satisfying dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (15-ounce) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
- 1 (15-ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
- 1 (14.5-ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
- 1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped cilantro, sliced jalapeños
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
- Add the ground turkey, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in the chopped onion and green bell pepper. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the kidney beans, black beans, diced tomatoes (undrained), tomato sauce, and chicken broth.
- Add the chili powder, cumin, dried oregano, and cayenne pepper (if using). Stir well to combine.
- Bring the chili to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Serve hot with your favorite toppings such as shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped cilantro, or sliced jalapeños.
Notes
- For a thicker chili, simmer uncovered for a few extra minutes.
- If you prefer a spicier chili, increase the amount of cayenne pepper or add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
- This chili freezes well. Allow it to cool completely before transferring it to an airtight container for freezing.
