Description
A classic comfort food recipe for Salisbury steak made easily in a slow cooker, featuring tender beef patties simmered in a rich mushroom gravy.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons butter or oil
- 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 8 ounces fresh mushrooms, sliced
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, chopped onion, salt, and pepper. Mix well and form into 8 equal-sized patties.
- In a skillet, melt butter or oil over medium-high heat. Brown the patties on both sides for about 2-3 minutes per side. Drain off any excess grease.
- Place the browned patties in a slow cooker.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, water, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder. Stir in the sliced mushrooms.
- Pour the soup mixture over the patties in the slow cooker.
- Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or on high for 3-4 hours, until the patties are cooked through and the gravy has thickened.
- Serve hot, spooning the gravy over the patties.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can add a splash of red wine to the gravy mixture.
- Serve with mashed potatoes or noodles to soak up the delicious gravy.
- If you don’t have cream of mushroom soup, you can use cream of celery or cream of chicken soup.
