Description

These Cranberry Orange Sweet Rolls are a delightful festive treat, perfect for holidays or any special occasion. They combine the tartness of cranberries with the zesty aroma of orange, all wrapped in a soft, sweet dough.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm milk (105-115°F)
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 ½ cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 ½ cups fresh or frozen cranberries, chopped
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • ½ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • For the Glaze:
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in granulated sugar, eggs, melted butter, and salt. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  4. While the dough rises, prepare the filling. In a small bowl, combine chopped cranberries, orange zest, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
  5. Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a 12×18-inch rectangle.
  6. Spread the cranberry-orange filling evenly over the dough, leaving a ½-inch border along one long edge.
  7. Starting from the long edge with the filling, tightly roll up the dough. Pinch the seam to seal.
  8. Cut the roll into 12 equal slices. Place the slices in a greased 9×13-inch baking pan.
  9. Cover the pan and let the rolls rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  10. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. While the rolls are baking, prepare the glaze. Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, orange zest, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  12. Let the rolls cool slightly in the pan before drizzling with the glaze.

Notes

  • Using room temperature ingredients for the dough will help it rise better.
  • If using frozen cranberries, do not thaw them before chopping.
  • Adjust baking time as needed, as ovens can vary.
  • The glaze can be made thicker or thinner by adjusting the amount of milk.
