Ingredients
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the brown sugar and stir until dissolved. Bring to a boil and cook for 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the flour, mixing until just combined.
- Spread the dough evenly onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown around the edges.
- Immediately after removing from the oven, sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the hot crust. Let sit for 5 minutes to melt.
- Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the crust.
- If using, sprinkle nuts over the chocolate.
- Let cool completely, then break into pieces.
Notes
- For a richer chocolate flavor, use dark or milk chocolate chips.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
- Can be made ahead of time and stored.
