Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  3. Add the brown sugar and stir until dissolved. Bring to a boil and cook for 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the flour, mixing until just combined.
  6. Spread the dough evenly onto the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown around the edges.
  8. Immediately after removing from the oven, sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the hot crust. Let sit for 5 minutes to melt.
  9. Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the crust.
  10. If using, sprinkle nuts over the chocolate.
  11. Let cool completely, then break into pieces.
