Description
A hearty and satisfying casserole featuring a flavorful chili base topped with melted cheese and crispy Tater Tots.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 (15 ounce) can chili beans, undrained
- 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed tomato soup
- 1 (15 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 (16 ounce) package frozen Tater Tots
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and onion over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
- Stir in the chili beans, condensed tomato soup, diced tomatoes, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Pour the chili mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Arrange the frozen Tater Tots evenly over the chili mixture.
- Bake for 20 minutes.
- Remove from oven and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the Tater Tots.
- Return to the oven and bake for another 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the Tater Tots are golden brown.
- Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a spicier casserole, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a chopped jalapeno to the chili mixture.
- You can substitute other shredded cheeses like Monterey Jack or a Mexican blend.
- If you don’t have condensed tomato soup, you can use 1 cup of tomato sauce and 1/2 cup of water or broth.
