A hearty and flavorful BBQ Pulled Pork Mac and Cheese Bake, perfect for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 1 pound elbow macaroni
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 cups milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 2 cups prepared pulled pork, warmed
- 1 cup BBQ sauce
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook macaroni according to package directions; drain and set aside.
- In a large saucepan, melt 1/2 cup butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Gradually whisk in milk and heavy cream until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, until thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in cheddar cheese and Monterey Jack cheese until melted and smooth. Stir in salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir to combine.
- In a separate bowl, gently mix the pulled pork with the BBQ sauce.
- Spoon half of the mac and cheese mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Layer the BBQ pulled pork mixture evenly over the mac and cheese.
- Top with the remaining mac and cheese mixture.
- In a small bowl, combine panko breadcrumbs and 2 tablespoons melted butter. Sprinkle evenly over the top of the mac and cheese.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
- Let stand for 5-10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For an extra cheesy bake, add a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese on top before baking.
- You can use your favorite store-bought or homemade pulled pork.
- Adjust the amount of BBQ sauce to your preference.
- If you don’t have panko breadcrumbs, regular breadcrumbs can be used.
