Description

These Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos are a flavor explosion waiting to happen! Crispy, spicy shrimp are tossed in a creamy, tangy Bang Bang sauce and piled high on warm tortillas with fresh, crunchy toppings. A quick and delicious meal perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • For the Bang Bang Sauce:
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha (or to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • For Serving:
  • 8-10 small corn or flour tortillas
  • Shredded cabbage or lettuce
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Chopped cilantro
  • Lime wedges

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bang Bang Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, lime juice, and garlic powder until smooth. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the shrimp: In a shallow dish, combine flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, and paprika. In another shallow dish, whisk the egg. In a third shallow dish, place the panko breadcrumbs.
  3. Dredge the shrimp: Dip each shrimp first in the flour mixture, then in the beaten egg, and finally coat generously with panko breadcrumbs.
  4. Fry the shrimp: Heat about 1-2 inches of vegetable oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C). Fry the shrimp in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan, until golden brown and cooked through, about 2-3 minutes per batch. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  5. Sauce the shrimp: In a clean bowl, gently toss the fried shrimp with about half of the Bang Bang sauce until evenly coated. Add more sauce if desired, but be careful not to make the coating soggy.
  6. Assemble the tacos: Warm the tortillas according to package directions. Fill each tortilla with shredded cabbage or lettuce, then top with the sauced Bang Bang shrimp.
  7. Garnish: Add diced tomatoes, chopped cilantro, and a drizzle of extra Bang Bang sauce if you like. Serve immediately with lime wedges.

Notes

  • For a spicier sauce, add more sriracha.
  • You can bake the shrimp instead of frying for a healthier option. Toss the breaded shrimp with a little oil and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • Feel free to customize your toppings with ingredients like avocado, red onion, or pickled jalapeños.
  • Make sure the oil is at the correct temperature for crispy shrimp. Too cool and they’ll be greasy; too hot and they’ll burn before cooking through.
