Description
This recipe features chicken breasts coated in a sweet and tangy balsamic fig glaze, offering an ‘unbelievable flavor’ perfect for a weeknight meal or special occasion.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 6-8 ounces each)
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (optional, for dredging)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1/4 cup fig jam or preserves
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Season the chicken breasts generously with salt and pepper. If using, lightly dredge them in the flour and shake off any excess.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook for 5-7 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature of 165°F/74°C). Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside, keeping it warm.
- In the same skillet (no need to clean it), reduce the heat to medium-low. Add the balsamic vinegar, fig jam, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, and minced garlic. Whisk continuously until the ingredients are well combined and the jam is dissolved.
- Bring the glaze mixture to a gentle simmer and let it cook for 3-5 minutes, or until it has thickened slightly and coats the back of a spoon.
- Return the cooked chicken breasts to the skillet. Turn the chicken to coat them completely with the balsamic fig glaze.
- Serve immediately, garnished with fresh chopped parsley.
Notes
- If the glaze becomes too thick, add a tablespoon of water or chicken broth to thin it out.
- For a richer flavor, use a high-quality aged balsamic vinegar.
- This dish pairs well with mashed potatoes, rice pilaf, or a fresh green salad.
- You can substitute chicken thighs for breasts; adjust cooking time accordingly.
