Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup finely chopped peeled apples
- For the Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream together granulated sugar and softened butter until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg until well combined.
- In a small bowl, whisk together milk and vanilla extract.
- Alternately add the dry ingredients and the milk mixture to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
- Gently fold in the chopped apples.
- Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- While the bread is cooling, prepare the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons of milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add more milk, a teaspoon at a time, if needed to reach desired consistency.
- Drizzle the glaze over the cooled apple fritter bread.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use a mix of apple varieties like Gala and Honeycrisp.
- Ensure apples are finely chopped so they distribute evenly throughout the bread.
- If you prefer a thinner glaze, add a little more milk. For a thicker glaze, use less milk or more powdered sugar.
- This bread can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
